The difference between sea salt and table salt

Ever wonder what the difference is between regular table salt and sea salt?

Table salt is typically mined from
underground salt deposits and is more heavily processed to be of uniform size
and texture, so it can easily be mixed into recipes. It’s stripped of any other
minerals. An anti-caking agent is added to prevent clumping and iodine is often
added to prevent goiter, an enlargement of the thyroid gland.

Sea salt is produced from
evaporated seawater, usually with little processing. Depending on the water
source, the salt may also contain trace minerals and elements, which can add
natural flavors and colors.

Lunds & Byerlys offers four
varieties of premium sea salt:

Greek: Made from pure Mediterranean sea
salt, with no additives or preservatives.

French: Pure Atlantic sea salt, with no
additives or preservatives.

Himalayan Pink: Salt from ancient sea beds in the Himalayas
with no additives or preservatives. Rich in mineral content, which gives the
salt its signature pink color.

Hawaiian Alaea: Pacific sea salt that has
been mixed with a red alae volcanic clay, which is rich in iron and adds a
distinctive flavor and color. No additives or preservatives.

Look for them in the spice aisle.
